Hello beautiful people! It's Village Mentality Wednesday!!
This week, I'll be talking about Mental Health in Rural America. While rates of mental illness are similar in rural areas compared to urban areas, there is a higher risk of suicide in rural communities, with nearly twice as many suicides in the most rural counties compared to urban. 1 in 25 adult Americans has a serious mental illness (SMI) in a given year, but people in rural areas are more likely to experience it, and they face unique barriers to receiving treatment. So let’s talk about the 4 A's of mental health in Rural America.
