Pacifiers! Oy vey, the questions, the shame, the guilt, the fear, this one comes as a heavy one that my pal Amanda joined me to lighten up a bit. Amanda, a Speech Language Pathologist and owner of Simply Spoken Therapy, taught me how pacifiers affect oral motor development, which ones are better for oral motor at different ages and stages, and when it may be beneficial to transition away from them. I touched for a second on the emotional development role pacifiers can play, and when to build your kiddos toolbox beyond pacifiers. This is a judgment-free zone. We are here to have a conversation. If you find yourself feeling shame or guilt as you tune in, pause, work on navigating and processing that, and then open your heart to learning more. It’s never too early or too late to make a change.
