"I heard a loud pop, like a giant balloon and I saw a giant black hole in the door I was standing next to. I looked down, and as I did I smelled the familiar smell of gun powder. I thought to myself 'did I just get shot?' and I told my partner and he told me to lay down so I did. Then he grabbed me by my vest and pulled me around the corner."

That's the short version of the story from today's guest Laurie White, retired RCMP.

With only 2 years on the job Laurie was shot by a suspect while serving a warrant. After being flown from rural Kitimat BC to Vancouver she awoke to an amputated leg and news that the man who shot her later killed himself after a standoff.

Laurie shares her story in a new book: 10-33 An Officer Down Steps Back Up

This week Laurie shares:

  • The feelings when you have to put on a smile for all the press after an on duty injury
  • How depression impacted her after having to move away from home
  • Why her story had to wait so long to be told
  • How hard Justin worked not to tell a single foot pun the entire show
