On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about Music Therapy. This episode is in conversation with Aanchal Gehi who is a music therapist.
We begin the episode by asking Aanchal what is music therapy and in what ways does it help us?
We then ask her that when people are going through tough times, many find solace in music. What about music calms us so much? Is it the rhythm and beat or the fact that we can relate to the lyrics sung?
We then go on to discuss what kinds of mental health problems does music therapy help with.
Aanchal then simply explains the basic features of a music therapy based session.
We then talk about whether a person with no experience in the field of music benefit from a music therapy session or not?
We then discuss that is music therapy a supplementary treatment or does it produce results alone and how long does it generally take to make a difference?
Aanchal then also explains to us the difference between music therapy and sound healing.
We then ask Aanchal that since mental health problems during the covid 19 pandemic have risen, how has music therapy helped people differently?
We also ask Aanchal if she makes use of genres of music that is listened to generally like pop, rock, country etc or a different genre in her sessions?
Lastly, we ask Aanchal to recommend some organisations/ psychologists that use music therapy for their clients in India.
