Welcome to EP 015 of the CVD Podcast with Hakeem Subair! 🙌🏼
This guy is a warrior! He is one of the most genuine and hardworking people I know!
Hakeem is the CEO and Founder of 1 Million Teachers (1MT), a company that empowers teachers in sub-Saharan Africa to be the best they can be, so they can provide the highest quality education possible to children from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Hakeem says that he and his team members have been through hell and back multiple times trying to address this wicked problem. The ultimate goal is to use education to address poverty, which is obviously no easy task.
From maxing out credit cards to keep the company alive to crying behind closed doors and then putting on a smile in front of his team to keep them going, Hakeem has been through a lot!
Once a CEO of a micro-finance bank in Nigeria where him and his family had it all, Hakeem and his wife left everything behind to move to Canada to pursue different opportunities. They struggled for the first 5 years and faced so much uncertainty.
But these experiences have made Hakeem extremely resilient and have taught him that self-belief is the most powerful thing that a person can have.
