Achieving weight loss success requires overcoming defeat and finding resilience. Avoidance is a common tactic for overcoming problems or addictions. But what if you can't avoid food and you have to eat? The pattern of starting a diet, losing some weight, and then finding the strategy unsustainable, and gaining the weight back again is not only discouraging, but also unhealthy. My doctor's answer to my question about how to stop this problem was not what I expected, and it taught me a critical lesson about weight loss.
