C-c-c-catch the Wave, People !! It’s the most m-m-m-m-merriest time of the year and VHS Rewind is proud to be spending this holiday reviewing M-M-M-Max Headroom’s Giant Christmas Turkey 1986. This is, indeed, a strange bird of a special with the faux computer-generated host singing songs (some of which are actually Christmas-flavored and one of which, “Merry Christmas Santa Claus (You’re a Lovely Guy”) actually released as a single, getting sch-sch-sch-schmaltzy with kids and conducting the strangest interviews with the likes of Bob Geldof (why?) and Dave Edmunds (who?) (this special originally aired on British television so I can only assume that those two guests were word-famous in London at this time). But then, M-M-Max “interviews” (not sure that is the right word) Robin Williams (well into his cocaine habit and c-c-cutting loose with some horrifically un-PC schtick) and Tina Turner (well into her c-c-c-cocaine habit as she cannot stop laughing – seemingly with no reason– throughout her appearance). B-b-b-best of all, we get to experience UK-based telly commercials as they aired back then! So sit back with g-g-g-good cheer AND LOVE in your heart and enjoy this b-b-bag of coal. Merry Christmas, Santa Claus, you are one love-love-lovely guy. Max Headroom’s Giant Christmas Turkey was originally aired on December 26, 1986 The post Max Headroom’s Giant Christmas Turkey first appeared on VHS Rewind! .…

VHS Rewind’s review of “This is Spinal Tap,” which was released on March 2, 1984, praised the music and the director’s incredible job. They raved about the film’s soundtrack, which featured original songs performed by the fictional rock band Spinal Tap. The songs were not only hilarious, but also impressively catchy, and the reviewers praised the band’s talent and the quality of the music. They also lauded the film’s satirical take on the rock and roll lifestyle, which poked fun at the excesses and absurdities of the genre. They were also impressed with the direction of the film, which was helmed by Rob Reiner. They noted that Reiner’s background in comedy and his previous work as an actor and director allowed him to expertly balance the film’s humor and heart. The film’s mockumentary style, which presented Spinal Tap as a real band with real problems, was also praised for its authenticity and attention to detail. Hasler and Jeacoma commented on how the film was able to capture the spirit of the rock and roll world, while still managing to be a hilarious and entertaining satire. Overall, VHS Rewind’s review of “This is Spinal Tap” was incredibly positive, and it reflected the film’s enduring legacy as a cult classic and a seminal work of comedy. The film has since gone on to influence countless other mockumentaries and rock and roll satires, and it continues to be celebrated for its hilarious performances, memorable music, and expert direction. It is that time of the year when we all gather with family and friends to give thanks…for the madness that is the 1982 NBC Thanksgiving Day Parade telecast. VHS Rewind is proud to serve our listeners with a Thanksgiving feast full of all the fixins (out of tune marching bands, butter-fingered baton twirlers, falling dancers, out of control balloons threatening innocent bystanders, really bad lip-synching from some big-name (well, in 1982) performers (some of whom are coked out of their minds), some amazing coats made of the most exotic animals worn by most everyone on-camera and THE MOST BIZARRE SEGMENT IN A THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE IN TV HISTORY – Uncle Miltie (and his enormous schlong, if Gilbert Gottfried is to be believed) in a dress, a very eager 12 year old Ricky Schroeder as Ms Uncle Miltie’s suitor, pedophilia…how this got past the network censors, we will never know). And then, the main course: the arrogant, pompous, humorless, full-of-himself turkey that is Bryant Gumbel. Listen as Mark and Christopher hilariously carve up Gobble Gobble Gumbel and his soul-sucking, fun-deadening parade commentary and barely disguised disdain for co-host (cute-as-a-button) Sarah Purcell and every costumed character he is forced to talk to during the telecast. Please join us for this very special holiday episode and stuff yourself silly with (we hope) laughter and good times.
