Jean Krasno teaches Peace Keeping & Negotiation at Columbia University. In her seminar, there are 2 Israelis and 1 Palestinian – all of whom are extremely active in their respective communities on campus. While the rhetoric on the sidewalk and on the Butler library lawn is intense, the conversation is totally different in Krasno’s classroom. She has succeeded in earning the trust of both “sides” and creating a container of safety and security where both Israelis and Palestinians feel seen and heard. In this conversation, Dr. Krasno gives a first-hand account of what is happening on campus and how that diverges from what is happening in her classroom.
