Today’s guest is not what at all what you might expect when I tell you that he is known as “the funeral guy” and that he owns two funeral homes. Chris Meyer is so full of positive energy and a zest for life, and as he explains during our conversation, he has learned so much about living this way through his work with death and those that are grieving.

Chris Meyer has lived many lives already in this one, working as a screenwriter, lawyer, funeral director, author, and so much more. He spoke openly and honestly to me about those different phases of his life, his lessons learned, and how he keeps finding the inspiration and drive to begin again and again. He shared what certain failures in his life have taught him and I thought it was so wise. Chris said that failure is such a huge part of his life and he’s grateful because it means he is continuing to strive. Chris says, “failure brick by failure brick is how we build our home. If you are taking the failure and you’re learning, you have a strong house and a hell of a lot of appreciation.”

Chris shares his experience in the funeral industry. He talks about what it was like in the beginning and how it has changed him so profoundly. It is such an intimate experience to meet people in those moments between time and space, and he says that he has received so much more than he has given. It’s been so impactful for him to walk through these times with people and their families and he tells a particularly touching story of a woman that was dying and how she chose him to carry out her plans after her death.

“Death is the greatest reminder of how to live, or start living, your own life.” ~ Chris Meyer

I hope that you will listen to this episode as he shares some of his biggest lessons learned including seeing all of the commonalities and connections that we have when we are grieving and that the grief we feel is a reflection of the love we feel, two sides of the same coin.

Chris wants all of us to remember that tomorrow is not guaranteed and that there is truly no time like the present.
