On this episode of Divine Intervention, we welcome Dr. Hormoz Shariat. Born and raised as a Muslim in Iran, Dr. Shariat was one of the people demostrating on the streets of Tehran, shouting "Death to America" during the 1979 Iranian revolution that ousted the Shah and ushered in an Islamic theocracy.

Within weeks of the revolution and the coming to power of the Mullahs, however, he and many other Iranians realized they had made a mistake. Hormoz came to the U.S. to study computer technology and artificial intelligence. It was while in the U.S. that through his personal study of comparing the Qur’an and Bible, Hormoz accepted Christ in 1980. He left his lucrative career and dedicated his life to spreading the gospel to millions of Muslims who are burdened around the world.

In 1987, Pastor Hormoz co-founded the Iranian Christian Church (ICC) in Sunnyvale, California, which has since grown into multiple churches worldwide. The majority of ICC is made up of former Muslims, and is the largest congregation of Muslim converts outside of Iran. Today, Dr. Hormoz Shariat has been identified in Joel Rosenberg’s bestseller, Inside the Revolution, as the “Billy Graham” of Iran. Mr. Rosenberg continued, “He is without question the most recognized and most influential Iranian American”.

Iran Alive Ministries, founded by Dr. Shariat in 2001, now broadcasts Gospel programming 24/7 into Iran, the Middle East, Northern Africa, and Europe.
