In this episode, I have a chat with Bill Zaferos, author of Poison Pen, a novel. Bill is an award-winning journalist and his first novel, the one we’re going to talk about today, was what emerged through channeling his mental illness into creativity. I’ll also be sharing the video version of this chat on my YouTube channel.

So, I love this endorsement of Bill’s book: “Poison Pen will appeal to fans of the odd and absurd. Each sentence is loaded with humor, heart, and meaning.”
The unconscious seeks to create, and sometimes we’re a willing partner and often we’re not. Sometimes, our unconscious screams to us through anxiety, illness, an odd combination of annoying events, and it can even take us over.

Today’s episode brings to life the intersection of mental health and creativity. To truly bring form to what wants to flow through us is to surrender to a higher power.
If you’re open, you’ll see yourself in Bill’s story, even if it’s a part of you that’s been banished to a dark corner in your unconscious. I did. That part of you might need to come out and play, or you can at least have a dialogue with it, so it doesn’t torture you. It’s going to find a way out anyway eventually, and it might not be pretty.
