In todays episode I speak with Dr.Tommy Wood, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Neuroscience at the University of Washington. We focus in one one of the research papers he co-authored entitled "Reframing Nutritional Microbiota Studies To Reflect an Inherent Metabolic Flexibility of the Human Gut: a Narrative Review Focusing on High-Fat Diets". We discuss:

  • The limitations in animal research when it comes to researching how nutrition influences the microbiome, especially when exploring how a high fat diet may influence the microbiome.
  • The limitations in the human studies we currently have (spoiler alert - their short duration).

I find this conversation very reassuring that we perhaps do not have to worry as much as may be led to believe and that a local in-season diet may well be best for us, and the planet.
