Guest: Cindy Bowman

Fundraising necessitates thought. It’s sometimes referred to as "development work" and is very relational. Community building, communication, effusiveness, enthusiasm, cheerleading, optimism, sincerity, and the capacity to establish and execute plans are all part of how the AFSP approaches raising funds to make a difference in people’s lives.

The AFSP hosts several events in support of suicide prevention year round. They bring individuals together from all walks of life who wish to help prevent suicide in their communities. Chapters are energized by families and friends who have lost loved ones to suicide, vulnerable persons, mental health professionals, clergy, educators, students, community/business leaders, and many others.

Cindy Bowman joins this episode of Hope Out of the Darkness to talk about the approach the AFSP takes when organizing fundraising events and the many different programs and events the AFSP offers throughout the year. Cindy also shares her experiences with taking an empathetic approach when meeting people. She reminds us of the power of asking the simple question, are you ok?
