Adam Bishop, the General Manager of Growth and Development for Athletics Australia, joins the show to talk about their new junior initiative, Next Athletics. Adam goes into detail the research that went into developing the program, what it aims to do in driving physical literacy and participation for children aged 3-12 years old, the format and how it will engage their motivation, how parents get involved and the plans for future expansion.

Next Athletics

National Track & Field Championships held at Adelaide. Among the races, Adam Spencer took out a stacked 1500m field, kicking in the last 200m to win in 3:37.68 ahead of Oli Hoare and Jesse Hunt. Stewy McSweyn, having led for most of it, placed fourth.
Jess Hull had a much more decisive victory, clearing the field with a lap to go for the Championship title in 4:01.39 with Georgia Griffith and Linden Hall on the podium.
Claudia Hollingsworth had 19th birthday celebrations to remember, winning the 800m in an Olympic Qualifier of 1:58.40, ahead of Abbey Caldwell, Bendere Oboya and Catriona Bisset.
Luke Boyes held off a fast-finishing Peter Bol to win the 800m title in 1:44.73, narrowly missing the Olympic Qualifier time, with Payton Craig taking third place.
Rose Davies broke away to win the 5000m title in 15:21.62 ahead of Lauren Ryan and Maudie Skyring, while Matt Ramsden slipped in the inside to win the 5000m title in 13:39.61, ahead of Morgan McDonald and Jackson Sharp.
Amy Cashin won the Steeplechase title in 9:39.53 ahead of Stella Radford and Cara Feain-Ryan, while Matt Clarke took out the title in front of the home crowd, winning 8:41.49 ahead of Ben Buckingham and Liam Cashin.
