As someone who's been abused. There are a lot of things that I deal with]h that are triggers and mindset beliefs that sometimes hold me back. Is your past preventing you from living a joy-filled life?
In my opinion, it is extremely important for us to recognize and discuss these triggers, issues, and mindsets. We can release the emotion that's connected and hear ourselves speak and hopefully come out of the denial or dysfunctional thinking that leads us to believe this. I'd like to share one of mine in hopes that it helps you unpack maybe why you do certain things or why you have some mindset issues or triggers that can disrupt your happiness.
If you're new here, you might not know that I grew up in a cult. There are a lot of things from the cult that have shaped my beliefs and behavior. I have to remind myself every day that I'm not in the cult anymore, and there is a whole wide, beautiful wild world out there. Rather than just assuming things are how they were when I was a child, I need to open my eyes and see what's really happening.
Despite being on this healing journey for a while, I still feel like I am not free. It is as if I am that child living in the cult with no ability to make my own choices. While I know I can do things, the fear of doing them wrong keeps me from acting. Survivors need to keep reminding themselves that they are free and that limiting beliefs can be changed.
It is important to remember:
"I am capable.". I am free. There is no limit to what I can do. While I am no longer that captured child living in that abusive situation, I sometimes still think I am, and that is okay. I'm here for that little girl.β
