In this episode, I explore the Dominant Dogma of: “I need to be the rescuer and the hero,” and how you can get caught in a caretaking “hero” role within the family and then play it out in other areas of your life. I discuss the impact perfectionism has on you in the long-term and why this gets you caught in prolongedFight/Flight/Freeze responses. I share my own experience of surrendering my “hero” role and finding belonging just by being me, plus the freedom of “I don’t have to rescue or be a hero to belong.” I also walk you through being seen and embracing who you truly are beyond this role and how to gain back power by handing back responsibility, saying no and setting meaningful boundaries.
