“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

For years, the U.S. healthcare system has had this adage backwards. Every industry is more profitable with repeat customers, after all. The complicated insurance rigamarole and the surprise costs of a seemingly simple procedure add up and take their toll. If that wasn’t enough, patients commonly complain of brief, impersonal, and frustrating experiences with doctors. The demand to improve healthcare is nothing new. However, after two years of overwhelmed and understaffed hospitals, patients and doctors alike are taking an active role in finding solutions.

In this episode, we speak with Dr. Carly Hudson for a fresh perspective on our wellbeing. Dr. Hudson is a very busy and multi-talented chiropractor who advocates for self-care and personal maintenance practices on her own podcast, Healing Ground Movement. Spurred towards her career by a life-threatening illness at a young age, Dr. Hudson has cultivated a nuanced perspective on how we can take control of our own health, and discusses the unity needed within the medical industry.

Topics covered:

  • Getting the best results from healthcare providers as they currently exist by using particular language with doctors and understanding the structure of the system
  • The benefits of lifestyle fixes vs “symptom whack-a-mole”
  • Dr. Hudson discusses her personal experience with ongoing medical care and the lessons she carries forward into her work
  • Finding compatible doctors who trust both their colleagues and the intuition of their patients
  • What is our responsibility to ourselves? Where is the line between self-care and medical intervention?
