Awesome to have superstar Jen Sinkler on the show recently. She was great to speak with. Extremely down to earth and funny. I know you're going to enjoy this interview....! Notes: - History & Jen's Story - Tips on building a successful community - Advice on writing and how Jen got so good - What did playing Rugby teach Jen about herself and life? - What Jen's thoughts are on New Year's Resolutions - 3 books that have positively impacted Jen's life - Mistakes that other trainers make when training female athletes? - Meeting David (Jen's husband) - Goals for 2016 (which leads into an amazing conversation about creativity!) - Getting in contact: jen (at) jensinkler.com unapologeticallystrong.com Facebook Insta Twitter Books mentioned: Lynne Truss – Eats, Shoots & Leaves Rebecca Solnit – Men Explain Things To Me David Sedaris – Assorted Titles Dan and Chip Heath – Switch Dave Logan – Tribal Leadership Julia Cameron – The Artist's Way Corrections: We also mentioned "Writers Write" in the podcast as 'a book'. But this is actually a website. The book is: The Elements of Style by Strunk and White. Thanks for the support and listening to this episode guys! Full Bio here: "I’m Jen Sinkler. I spent a decade as Experience Life magazine’s fitness editor and editorial director of fitness, and now I’m a fitness writer for a number of national magazines. I’m passionate about delivering high-quality information in a way that doesn’t patronize or bore you (unfortunately, these often seem to be your options). I continue to draw on my background in publishing, providing interviews with those leading in their respective fields. I don’t do the thing where I pretend to be an expert in every topic — that seems exhausting and ill advised, so instead I seek out the best information and provide it to you here. I also train clients at The Movement Minneapolis, a gym I own with my husband, deadlift aficionado David Dellanave. Our facility implements a biofeedback-based training approach in a small-group training environment. The methods we use mean everyone trains a little bit differently, in a way that suits that person’s body best each day. It’s a little bit weird, to tell you the truth. Speaking of weird, I’m a fitness eclectic, and I like it that way. Not everyone enjoys hefting the same implement or training in the same style, and I want to be able to use all the toys in the gym, and to teach my clients to, as well. I’m a kettlebell instructor through the RKC (Level 2) and KBA, and an Olympic lifting coach through USA Weightlifting; I also hold coaching certifications through Onnit Academy, Primal Move, Progressive Calisthenics, TACFIT, CrossFit and DVRT (Ultimate Sandbag). Social media is a fantastic way to connect, so if you’re around, swing by and say hi or ask me questions on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram (I’m on Pinterest, too). I’ve been named one of Huffington Post’s “20 of the Best Fitness Experts Worth Following on Twitter,” one of Shape magazine’s “Top 30 Motivators of 2013,” and one of Greatist’s “15 Must-Read Trainers Rocking the Web in 2013” and “100 Most Influential People in Health and Fitness” for both 2014 and 2015. I played rugby for 13 years, many of those on the U.S. national 7s and 15s teams. I like to brawl a little bit, and I’m usually up for any sort of sport. What do you want to play? In my spare time, I meditate, cook the meanest breakfast and read every book I can get my hands on — 10 minutes at a time, before I fall asleep at night, the bed littered with our beloved dogs, Franklin and Zoey, who are featured heavily in my social media streams."
