The recent mass murders rocking our country have brought a cascade of watershed moments. As our minds and hearts try to grasp “this type of extreme violence and killing” and “how to stop the continual loss of innocent lives”, our conversations have turned to mental health, guns, policies and politics. These conversations, are imperative and unite us in our common outcry for right action. As a mental health professional, I am relieved conversations about mental health are up front and center for they are long overdue. Yet to begin conversations about mental health and mental illness, we need to begin with foundational knowledge. In this episode, I share the main components of mental health, focus on 10 foundational principles of mental well-being and give pause for reflection.
