In this episode, Alex interviews Ro Shore, a spiritual coach, author and founder of Northwest Wisdom, a nonprofit center for healing and embodied spirituality. Ro shares his personal journey of growth, healing, and his upcoming book release.

Raised as an adopted child from Calcutta in a predominantly White community in Oregon, Ro faced challenges in navigating his identity as a person of color. He explored spirituality beyond his Christian upbringing, delving into Eastern philosophies.

Ro's narrative takes a dramatic turn as he recounts his experience of being incarcerated in a predominantly White prison. He faced overt racism, isolation, and the presence of white supremacists and neo-Nazis, intensifying the hostile atmosphere.
In prison, Ro began to explore meditation in a deep way, discovering the connection between his physical sensations and his spirituality and psychology. He learned to sit with his feelings and uncover deeper layers of hidden grief, shame, and sadness.

In late 2022, several years after his release from prison, Ro felt it was time to share his story, leading him to write his book, "The Wisdom of My Body: Healing Brown Trauma in a White Prison through Meditation and Spiritual Embodiment." The memoir explores his journey through incarceration, healing from racial trauma, and the transformative power of meditation and spiritual embodiment.
It serves as a testament to resilience and the potential for growth and healing in challenging circumstances.

Ro Shore continues his work as a spiritual coach and runs Northwest Wisdom, offering spiritual counseling, coaching, reiki, and one-on-one yoga instruction provided by his wife.
