#176 - A Conversation with Rich Holzman, EMT, Firefighter, Coach

Imagine discovering something from the past and seeing it anew with a fresh insightful perspective. A previously released interview from the past sheds light on some of the most courageous, selfless among us who need compassion and care just like anyone else: EMTs and first responders. In this special episode, we have the privilege of revisiting with fresh eyes what it takes to be a first responder with Rich Holzman - EMT, firefighter, coach, commander, and transformative human being, and we have the privilege of understanding more deeply the weight of lifesaving responsibilities for first responders and EMTs which extends far beyond the immediate rescue efforts. The nature of their work can affect their physical well-being. The irregular and often long working hours, coupled with the physical demands of the rescues themselves, can also affect their mental health well-being, can lead to exhaustion, sleep disturbances, and injuries. Saving lives is not just a job; it's a deeply ingrained calling driven by a sense of duty to save human life. However, with the relentless demands of their profession, comes an often-overlooked challenge—the impact of secondary trauma.

Blink of an Eye is created by Louise Phipps Senft and co-produced by Mike Serman. Theme music for the story is by Victoria Vox. Theme music for the Trauma.Healing.Learning and Dear Louise is by Ian Kelosky.
