In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. Part Two of a thorough review of Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams picks up with Chapters 12-18. As the author begins to experience life working for Facebook as a new mother, the reality of how that milestone is viewed by her colleagues becomes apparent. More equally chilling and amusing insights about Sheryl and Mark are shared, including her experiences being included in Mark's luxurious travel, his private jet preferences, and the work, or lack thereof, that went into courting various governments. Awkward executive level dynamics and personalities continue to be revealed via Sarah's outsider's perspective as we witness her slowly becoming more jaded with each passing chapter. Jax's recent display of irrational anger and violence comes to a head in this episode when his friends and family encourage him to admit himself into a facility. As he's packing to leave, we witness another volatile argument with Brittany when she confronts him about breaking their rule not to have women stay over at their family home. That argument culminates in Brittany calling Jax out for substance abuse and leaving him speechless when she asks if he could pass a drug test. Meanwhile, Jesse and Michelle have a confrontation that ends with her bursting his shiny, new, love bubble. Zach's boyfriend Benji agrees to move in with him for the summer, Kristin tries to get through to Jax about the severity of his situation, and Janet laments her attempt to rebuild a friendship with Kristin. This week brought more headaches for former Fox (Entertainment) "News" host turned Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Amidst whispers of chaos at the Pentagon, Pete ranted about the media on the White House lawn as attendees enjoyed a holiday dedicated to a risen savior by rolling expensive eggs and learning about corporate sponsorships. As more Federal agencies and jobs are dismantled, a whistleblower submitted a report on DOGE's concerning activity to remove sensitive data. Meanwhile, Harvard became the first major university to refuse to comply with administration demands, setting off a chaotic but amusing game of chicken. Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland made good on his promise to go to El Salvador and try to get Kilmar Abrego Garcia out of CECOT, speaking with him under supervision and with shameless efforts to sway the optics of their meeting. The judicial branch is still fighting back, with one judge moving forward to hold the administration in contempt for violating his order, and with the Supreme Court at a crossroads in the hell of their own making. Through it all, RFK Jr. continues to remind people why no one should listen to him - ever. Also, a bunch of women in skin tight bodysuits and glam went high up in the air in a rocket shaped like a penis and got upset when no one thought it was cool. The Season 2 premier starts with an alarming update as viewers are brought into the aftermath of an alarming fight between Jax and Britney, one bad enough to result in everyone encouraging him to seek professional help. Then, we flashback to a week prior and see Britney's efforts to find her own place within the friend group, and the world, independent of Jax. Jesse and Michelle navigate contentious divorce proceedings and co-parenting drama as they both establish new relationships. Kristin and Luke are still focused on starting a family - and standing by Kristin's comments revealing Janet's rumored conversations about Michelle from last season. Now that Janet has had her baby, she wants to mend the issues with Kristin, but still has it out for Zach. The last segment of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Reunion is a meeting that could have been an email. Beyond seeing Garcelle pushed to her limits, the conversations ruminate on mostly tired topics, save for new crumbs of information from Kyle about Mo - per her tried and true formula to dangle the possibility of progress at the very end of a stalemate storyline. Dorit finds joy in exhaustively berating Sutton as Boz chimes in to support her new bestie's endeavors, Erika publicly states that Tom Girardi is incompetent, Sutton can't break free from the trap of seeking clique-acceptance, and the additions of Kathy/Jennifer Tilly continue to provide much needed comedic relief. Despite Garcelle starting the reunion hoping for a cast photo, when the moment comes AFTER the reunion has completed, she opts out and leaves, and no one follows to check on her - until it's too late. The summary of yet another chaotic week kicks off by acknowledging the testimonies of Liz Oyer and Rachel Cohen, both of whom have been mentioned previously for standing up to pressures from the administration in their own ways. From there, we cover the impact of losing CDC and DOJ personnel, Project 2025's warped progress, how more "loyalists" are showing their fealty, the SAVE Act's pink poll tax, and blowback from placing steep tariffs on China. However, most news pales in comparison to the significance of Kilmar Abrego Garcia still not being returned from a maximum security prison for terrorists in El Salvador after being mistakenly sent there - and the added enthusiasm that U.S. citizens deemed "monsters" could be next. This pod is an outlet to vent after watching Real Housewives of Atlanta where Brit seemingly faced no network consequences for trying to intimidate and/or threaten a cast member by talking about having a weapon - and then watching a ridiculous ending to a slow paced, multi-season Yellowstone prequel. Kenya absolutely went too far, however it was odd to not see swift action to check a cast member for bringing up weapons at all, and that Kenya's prepared remarks and displays were a complete surprise to producers. Then, I loosely summarize the plot of Yellowstone 1923, a show whose last bundle of episodes were riddled with extreme violence towards its women characters. My rant on the show focuses on writer/creator Taylor Sheridan's choice to continue that trend and end the series with a grand display of senseless loss felt less like an attempt to relay life's harsh realities and more like emphatic overkill. The whistleblowing book written by former Facebook executive Sarah Wynn-Williams is as explosive and shocking as expected, maybe more so. The author reveals personal stories that shaped her world-view and explains her conviction and hope to use her life to affect positive change. That same hope led her to pursue a career at a social technology company she seemingly envisioned as a champion for humanity. From there, she takes us with her into executive level meetings, haphazard trips abroad, and interactions with various staff that each provide startling enlightenment into the inner workings of a company with access to sensitive information about people around the globe. Due to revelations within this book, U.S. Senators are currently looking into Facebook's alleged collusion with foreign governments. Regardless of its entertainment value, Sarah may have accomplished her goal of affecting positive change. Sutton and Kyle are the main focuses of Part 2 as Dorit laments how each offended her, or let her down, throughout the season, as Erika and/or Boz nod approvingly throughout. After a lengthy and exhaustive back and forth, Kyle finally apologizes for her combative stance about texting PK with a pledge of loyalty. Sutton gets chided by everyone for daring to flex her wealth in the "wallet" comment heard 'round the caviar tasting. Dorit unleashes a self-righteous tirade on Sutton, doling out smugly stated life lessons between low blows. Kathy and Jennifer Tilly join the group and continue to bring a much needed dose of comedy and positivity into an otherwise bleak environment. If Part one is any indication, this reunion bundle is going to be painful to watch. The separate factions mentality of the group continues to outshine any other dynamic. The majority take issue with Sutton and Garcelle throughout, labelling them as "mean girls" while lamenting their reign of terror - despite it being a connection forged from being pushed to the outskirts of the group across past seasons. Garcelle is singled out by almost everyone, for any perceived slight or insult, most of which resulted from her bravery in asking real questions on a show where much of the cast would prefer to ignore their issues. After learning that Dorit only came back because Lisa Rinna convinced her, I'm even more sure that the old cliques have to be broken apart in order for BH to regain its status as an exciting franchise. The first installment in the "Low Pressure Book Club Series" is a review of 'Why Does He Do That?' by Lundy Bancroft. Packed with helpful lists of warning signs, debunked excuses, and key signs of abuse, this book was written to provide insight into the minds of men who don't respect their partners. Throughout, I work to explain unacceptable behaviors by comparing them to similar ones displayed by men on Bravo. The author relies on his 30+ years of counseling men to identify contributing factors and presents a path to change that relies solely on the angry man reaching a point where that anger no longer serves him. Unfortunately, this review begins by discussing recently shared allegations by several women that say Lundy weaponized that same extensive counseling experience to prey upon their vulnerabilities. As a result, a book that presents a thesis that abusers are made, not born, now serves as a helpful guide in more ways than its author intended. https://cryingoutforjustice.blog/2025/01/30/lundy-bancroft-is-a-predator/ All opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. Mid-recap, I delay this pod by taking a break after hearing Erika still describe Tom as an accomplished lawyer. Then, a review of news from 2024 about Dorit and PK's pre-foreclosure from four months of missed house payments, on top of previously reported tax liens. Plus, updated legal info about two major lawsuits facing Erika, Tom's sentencing, and my recommendation on casting to save the franchise from clique fakery. BONUS: Recalling key hellish moments Garcelle withstood to be on this show. All opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. This extended finale required a two-part recap. We pick up on Sutton's trial at sea and shift into birthday dinner gear for Erika and Dorit. Sutton's delayed appearance, and hesitance to join, is a topic of conversation as Jennifer Tilly tries in vain to help her friend navigate a situation that neither feel like she can win. Garcelle finally approaches Kyle about not sticking up for Sutton, but her choice to teach Sutton a lesson by also not standing up for her on the boat leaves that critique falling flat. Meanwhile, Dorit and Erika continue to be the two off-base friends nodding and telling each other "exactly" as Boz works to connect with Sutton while appearing to lean further and further into clique territory. Kathy's all out of F's to give this episode, giving me the giggles and starting a new ice bag accessory trend. The purpose of this new spin-off pod is to look back at the week and review the most horrifying and cringe-worthy political moves and blunders from America’s Broligarchy era. Much of it is serious but some of it is absolute idiocy, either way, the hope is that you walk away knowing more about current political events after listening. All sources of information are listed on the Patreon. There's never a dull day in the Broligarchy but the past week was one for the history books. Between the move to begin dismantling the Department of Education after selling Tesla's on the White House lawn, to seeing prestigious law firms acquiesce, then hearing about for-profit detention center horror stories, listening to a leaked audio that's allegedly of the VP, and then learning about an unbelievably massive security breach via cell phone, all while a once-bold billionaire does his best Ruprecht character work, it's been a doozy. All opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. This pod is hosted by a United States citizen, born and raised in a military family that is so very proud of this country's commitment to free speech. Information shared is cited via published articles, legal documents, press releases, government websites, public videos, news reports, and/or direct quotes and statements, and all may be paraphrased for brevity and presented in layman's terms. “I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.” - James Baldwin Wanna support this independent pod? A review of multiple motions to dismiss, a denial to delay discovery, and new provocative lawyer statements. Ryan Reynold's legal team responds to the Nicepool character as well as allegations that Ryan referred to Justin Baldoni as a "sexual predator" in their motion to dismiss as Blake's team cites a new California law as the basis for dismissing Justin's countersuit. Meanwhile, PR people Leslie Sloane and Stephanie Jones continue to wade through several legal proceedings. The trip to Saint Lucia kicks off with a confrontational dinner, followed by a confrontational catamaran ride. The close friendship between Garcelle and Sutton is tested throughout as Garcelle bristles seeing Sutton defend Kyle and ultimately decides to let Sutton stand alone when fielding critiques. Jennifer Tilly and Kathy continue to bring levity even if it's questionable whether Kathy knows who Jennifer is. Erika makes a point of airing both new and old grievances towards Sutton throughout the episode and Boze finally gets the chance to observe Dorit in action. As the ladies prepare to leave for a lavish vacation in Saint Lucia, we see Kyle and Dorit finally meet with their party-going separated husbands to discuss delicate matters. Kyle psychologically prompts hers to bring up photos of him smooching a younger woman while Dorit defers to hers as to the status of their relationship. Boze has her new man over for dinner with her daughter, Sutton and Garcelle discuss the ongoing rift with Dorit, Erika continues to make off-base comparisons and showcase her rental decor, Kathy shows us she keeps her hair extensions in plastic sandwich bags, Jennifer Tilly calls out the clique-is behavior of the group, and Dorit does the worst Sutton voice I've ever heard. A rapid-fire rundown of random inconsistencies, omissions, and public manipulations from both sides. From learning more about promo videos, hype articles, and pettiness, to staying focused about what does and does not matter for trial, this dive addresses an amalgamation of distractions and conundrums. Ultimately, my opinion is that each party has been their own worst enemy by undercutting their own assertions and losing the thing they both want more than any amount of money - public trust. The trial next year will be a circus but I hope those who can see through all the current noise will then be able to see through any courtroom spin. This episode revolves around Sutton and Dorit rehashing their "tete-a-tete" from the 4th of July party. Amidst an event to celebrate expensive potatoes, caftans, and jewels, the women jab, mock, and ridicule one another to the amusement of all attendees. Sutton delves into her baser impulses and coins the moniker "Poorit" as she flexes the hefty girth of her divorce settlement. Was it a horrid, distasteful look? Yes. Was it also accurate and amusing? Yes and yes. The episode ends with a collective gasp as the group sees Mo and a young woman splashed on the tabloid pages.
