Ben Fairchild is a sports performance manager in Houston, Tx, who specializes in baseball preparation. He owns Fairchild Sports Performance, Inc., which is a 12,000 square foot boutique-style training facility, that features over 40 professional baseball clients. Ben has been in the sports performance industry for 15 years. He has built a reputation for resurrecting the careers of aging and injured athletes. Most notably, helping Lance Berkman win 2011 Comeback Player of the Year and return to All-Star status. Other baseball clients include All-Stars Andy Pettitte, Mark Melancon, Anthony Rendon, and #1 overall pick Mark Appel. Prior to opening FSP, Ben worked with athletes from all sports and spent significant time preparing college football players for the NFL Combine. Ben credits some of his foundational understanding to his mentor Mackie Shilstone, a New Orleans-based trainer who is known for helping Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Serena Williams, Ozzie Smith and others return to top form. With a Master’s degree in Human Performance and Bachelor’s degrees in sports science and business, Ben takes a business-like approach to the management of his athletes, using the assessment to drive programming. Ben’s training approach is evidence-based. He is an avid exercise and nutrition researcher, who applies the latest scientific findings to his sports and exercise training programs. In addition to his education and experience, Ben is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.The SMARTER Team Training Audio Interview Series has been developed to share insights from some of the best in the industry.
