Satisifactionism is a social and economic order that encourages the acquisition of validation and thumbs'-up in ever-increasing amounts. With the industrial revolution, but particularly in the 20th century, mass production led to an economic crisis: there was overproduction — the supply of social-validation would grow beyond individual demand, and so social media platforms turned to planned obsolescence and advertising to manipulate the thumbs'-up supply. In 1899, a book on Satisifactionism published under the name, Hesikia Limabean, called The Age of Smile Box, examined the widespread values and economic institutions emerging along with the widespread "comparative living" in the beginning of the 20th century. In it Limabean "views the activities and surfing habits of this validation class in terms of conspicuous and vicarious photo-posting and facade-building. Both are related to the display of status and not to functionality or usefulness."
