Tracy J Trost and the Successful Life Mindset Episode are You Stretching Yourself

Is it all about you?

Cliff is reading a book by Steve Brown, “Three Free Sins”. One of the things the book discusses is that sometimes it is about “me”. More importantly, it discusses the fact than many of our actions and/or decisions are based on what others think of us. We are, for the most part, “people pleasers”. We want the approval of others. Many times, it is people that don’t even care about us or what we do. Why do we do this? We have a void in our lives; we feel we are complete or whole with the accolades of others. Tracy read a book by Gary Smally, “The Blessing” which talks about our need to pass along a blessing from one generation to the next, usually by the father figure. When the blessing is not passed down, regardless of the reason, it leaves the need unfulfilled. Cliff recommends the book to set you free from the need to please others.

Cliff and Tracy were both in NYC recently for Blog World Expo. Cliff lined up 54 speakers and really had a fantastic week. He did a great job and really wanted to bask in the praise of the Blog World staff, but he got so much more! Everywhere he went he heard praise and encouragement for the effort he put into making the event a success. He was excited and delighted, but when he got home he experienced a really depressing week. Why? He had been riding a “sugar high” of praise and the let-down, when it was over left him depressed. Pleasing others is nice, but it won’t sustain you. So sometimes, it is all about you; about what makes you happy. Just as a father delights in watching his child find joy in doing what they love, so God finds joy when we do what we love.

Inspirational Quotes

“Are you doing what you’re doing today because you want to do it and it works or because it’s what you did yesterday?” ~ Dr. Phil

“If it doesn’t scare you, you’re not being stretched.” ~ Tracy Trost

Stretch yourself!

If you never do anything scary, if you never step out in faith, you’re living in your comfort zone. Step out, embrace the uncertainty and stretch yourself to move to the next level. There is little growth in the comfort zone of your life. If you have downtime or numb-time (such as jogging), learn something new – listen to teachings to stretch your mind. When we know how something will turn out we decide to do it or not do it, but sometimes the unknown leads us to a break-through and achieve greater heights in our goals. Stepping out in faith often opens new doors of opportunity.

Things to remember:

  • Don’t live to always please others at the expense of your happiness.
  • Don’t fear the unknown.
  • Step out and grow by stretching yourself.
