Cliff played an audio feedback from a listener. The listener was concerned that podcast listeners might have the impression that Successful Life Mindset has implied that you can do something you’re passionate about for free for the rest of your life. He disagrees and would like the story set straight.

Both Cliff and Tracy don’t want anyone to be left with that impression. The way to determine what you’re passion in life is would be to ask yourself, “what is the one thing that I would do for free even if I had to work forty or more hours a week to pay the bills.” Then, once you realize what you’re passionate about, find a way to turn it into a business

Tracy has two businesses. One he really likes. It is a marketing company and he loves the people he works with, but the other business, filmmaking is his passion. He loves making movies that not only entertain, but also inspire people. Likewise, Cliff loves podcasting, but podcasting is not his passion. His passion is to share his life to educate, encourage, entertain and inspire others.

Two that found their passion

A man that worked in the financial world took one of Cliff’s classes on podcasting. He asked Cliff, via email, if he should begin a podcast on Small Business Consulting or Personal Financial Advice. The man gave reasons for both and told of his career in the field. Cliff replied that while either would be fine, he didn’t feel the man’s passion about either in his email. The man answered that if passion was the deciding factor he would choose either biking or wooden boats. Once passion entered into the equation, it changed everything. Since then the man started a podcast on wooden boats and is quite successful. You can see his work at hookedonwoodenboats.com. He has completed 33 weekly podcasts and is a success.

Tracy knows a woman that had a passion for quilting. She quilted as a hobby for years. She had become so good at it she was asked to speak about it, wrote a book about it and now quilts for a career. She asked if Tracy would use one of her quilts in his movie, “A Christmas Snow”. Tracy has her quilt on the back of the sofa and Kathleen uses it in a scene.

Both of these people chose to find that thing they were passionate about and eventually turn it into a business. Tracy and Cliff did the same thing. Cliff worked in insurance and wanted to podcast full-time. His initial idea was to be “on mic” forever. He has adjusted his dream to podcast for the sheer joy of it, while doing other podcasting work such as consulting and training to pay the bills.

Giving It All Away

Although the phrase “give it all away for free” might be slightly misleading, it has a basis of truth.

Cliff has 259 recorded podcasts of Podcast Answer Man available for free. If you have any question about podcasting, the answer is there. Even though you can listen to it all and never hire him, he has people tell him all the time they don’t have time to sift through the information to find and/or fix what they need. They would rather pay him for one-on-one time and get it done.

Tracy has made 3 movies and written 2 books to-date. He has provided many of each product at no cost to those that could benefit from them and their lessons on life. He has put in countless hours to help others at no cost, yet the success comes.

Other Side of the Coin

If you reverse this thought process, you will find that those that find something to make money, lots of it quickly and easily are usually not nearly so successful. When passion for your work is missing, either you won’t be successful or you won’t be happy.

• Find your passion, then find a way to build it into a business.
• Give it away and you still win.
• Working for the money doesn’t guarantee success.
