10 Ways to Make Your Day Easier as a Woman Doctor with Dr. Karen Leitner
Manage episode 404570111 series 3053769
Dr. Karen Leitner is a physician coach who shares 10 ways (and other incredible tips!) to make your day easier as a woman doctor. Some are “small” changes that you can start doing today and watch it make a BIG impact on your work day and possibly even happiness.
Overview:
- Don’t check your email during clinic hours.
- Say thank you for waiting instead of, “I’m sorry I’m late”.
- Tell patients that you’re happy to see them.
- Take a 20 second pause in between each patient.
- You did not create the system…It’s a waste of your time to let the patient complain to you about it. Give them the manager or CEO card. (We get to agree with the patient.)
- Treat yourself like a cranky toddler. If you’re hungry, eat! Don’t run off to see the next patient or finish a chart.
- Pee when you have to! (Why do we walk around with overfilled bladders!)
- Instead of fixating on what you’re not doing well and the more that you have to do, focus on getting 1% better.
- Assume that everyone is doing their best and you don’t know how well you would do if you had their genetics, their upbringing, or their political beliefs. (Brene Brown)
- Try to remember why you decided to be a doctor in the first place.
