56. Chill & Thrill: Cool Stuff in your Kitchen and Garden
Manage episode 371920890 series 3372246
Things are heating up, and we are on fire🔥 here at the Habit Thrive Podcast!
One reason is that this weekend officially marks the one-year anniversary of this podcast!🥳
I truly would not be here without each and every one of you listening every week, so thank you🤗 from the bottom of my heart.
The other reason we are feeling the heat comes down to one simple word: Summer.
Last week, we started talking about habits to keep our cool during this hot and humid month of July, and today - on Episode #56 - we are digging deeper into some delicious,😋 cooling drinks and snacks and finding out what’s cool in your kitchen and garden.
Our first cooling item on the list this week is a bit of a no-brainer: water.
But what you may not know is that, according to Ayurveda, it’s actually best not to drink ice cold water because your body works too hard to regulate your temperature when you do.
Instead, opt for cool or room-temperature water and enhance it with some cooling additions like:
- Mint
- Lime
- Berries
- Cucumber
And, for an extra special treat, try these cooling additives in your favorite cocktail or mocktail such as a margarita or mojito.
Once you have your beverage of choice, you may be looking for the perfect summer snack.
One of my go-tos is a nice, cooling dip using ingredients straight from my garden.
A simple dip such as guacamole can use a lot of cooling ingredients like the limes we added to our water, avocado and cilantro.
If you’re not a fan of dips, you can throw together a simple summer salad with ingredients like watermelon, feta and mint.
Soooo refreshing!
So get out in your garden - or to your nearest farmers market or grocery - and start experimenting with herbs, fruits and veggies that can help you fight the heat this summer.
And if you don’t have a garden but want to try your hand at growing some of the ingredients we talked about today, try starting a few herbs in a small planter or container on your porch.
You don’t need a huge plot of land to grow something healthy and refreshing!😉
