Last week on the Habit Thrive Podcast, we talked about how exercise has a direct link to our happiness.😃
Haven’t you ever noticed🤔 after a walk, hike or bike ride that you feel a rush of endorphins and a spike in your feeling of happiness?
Makes sense that we would crave that feeling and be exercising all the time, right?
But we don’t!😬
We often find ourselves saying ❌we’re too busy, ❌something came up, ❌we don’t have time to do frivolous activities when there are so many other items on our list that need checking off.
This week, on Episode #65, we are talking about the best kept🤫 secret for getting results when it comes to planning happiness:
Just Schedule It!✏️
And this includes your bike rides, kayak trips and after-dinner dog walks.
There’s a huge difference between saying “I’m going to start walking more” and saying “I’m going to go for a walk after dinner every night.”
The first statement is too general and does not set you up for success.👎
Instead, it puts you in an automatic “I’ll do it later” mindset.
That statement morphs into:
I’m going to start walking more when I have more free time.⏰
I’m going to start walking more when it’s not so hot/cold outside.🥵
I’m going to start walking more after I save up for some new walking shoes.👟
But that arbitrary start date you set for yourself never comes. Or, worse, it comes and you find a new reason to put it off.🤦🏼‍♀️
But if we schedule that activity instead, it keeps it up front and center and gives it a space of belonging.🙌🏼
Get out your planner and write “go for a walk” in your 7pm block every day.
Put a sticky note on your fridge to remind you after dinner.
Set up a group walk with some friends or neighbors.
Not only will you be much more likely to actually go on that walk, you’ll get the added benefit of the satisfaction that comes from checking off ✅an item on your list.
Win-win!🥳
