Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow Canadians!🍁

As we move into this holiday weekend (and a new month), we are going to start focusing on embracing gratitude.🙏

And today, on episode #67 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we are kicking things off by talking about Three Reasons Why Your Gratitude Practice May Not Be Working.🤔

Sometimes - like around Thanksgiving, when we are around family and friends, enjoying the beautiful colours of fall and amazing food - it’s easy to find gratitude.🥰

It almost is impossible not to feel it!

Other times, we might have difficulty finding that feeling even if we want to.😕

One reason for that may be that we’re putting too much pressure on ourselves to get it “right.”

Gratitude is beneficial to us in many ways:

  • It increases positive thoughts and emotions❤️
  • It improves our mental🧠 wellbeing
  • It improves our relationships👩‍❤️‍👨
  • It helps our sleep quality😴 and immunity

So it makes sense that you would want your gratitude practice to work and work quickly!

But, having that question in your mind of whether or not you’re getting it “right”🤔 can actually make you feel more stressed and less grateful.

Another reason you may be struggling with gratitude is that you simply haven’t found your groove.

Gratitude might look👀 different for you than it does for me.

So think about when and where you feel the most sense of gratitude:

  • Journaling early in the morning with a cup of tea or coffee☕️
  • Journaling at night before bed✏️
  • Sitting on the porch just taking in the sights, smells and sounds of nature🌳
  • Taking a walk in the evening🚶🏼‍♀️

Try different approaches, and notice what works for you and what doesn’t.

And, finally, you may just think your gratitude practice isn’t working … but in reality, it is.☝️

Sometimes, we get so caught or overwhelmed with the big picture that we don’t even notice the small stuff:

  • With our thoughts
  • With our emotions
  • With our relationships

So take a moment each day or at the end of the week to reflect on those moments where you felt gratitude moving in your life.🤗

Write it down, remember it and keep looking for those moments.

Welcome to the season of gratitude!
