You are in control of much more than you think when it comes to your health.

Today’s special guest is Dr. Rakesh Jotwani, a former colleague at The Permanente Medical Group. He is a former hospitalist who is now practicing Lifestyle Medicine full-time.

We talk about the importance of practicing mindfulness and its many practical applications.

Mindfulness is the instrument you can use to help you make choices and decisions that create healthy outcomes if they are what is valuable to you.

Rakesh tells the story of how I came into his life “at just the right moment.” He shares how a physician wellness talk I gave on Evidence-Based Workplace Happiness set off his “BS meter” but turned out to be the impetus he needed to begin his journey to mindfulness, better physical and mental health, and changed career in medicine.

Dr. Rak started by practicing Headspace in his car- serendipitously in the transitions of his day.

He ultimately lost over 50 pounds, gave up his fast food addiction and emotional eating, and changed to a plant-based diet. In 2018, he became certified in lifestyle medicine - the second year that board certification was offered. In 2022, he transitioned to practice lifestyle medicine full- time.

Enjoy a RAIN practice with Dr. Rak as today’s mindful moment. The RAIN practice helps with both intense emotions and cravings.
