150. Parenting Athletes with Presence
Manage episode 374147437 series 2882323
A different twist on our parenting with presence. In this episode, we share ways mindfulness and coaching can help you approach parenting your youth athlete.
Mindful reflection and intention can help you parent in ways that empower your student athlete to be the best version of themselves and make decisions from a place of strength rather than compare and despair, scarcity, and FOMO.
Harder and more is not better for student-athletes.
We share our personal journeys as parents of student-athletes as well as Jessie's story of playing sports in high school and college. Jessie is a mom of three boys who are baseball fanatics all of whom at one point had dreams of playing college baseball. Her youngest is currently going through the college recruiting process. She is also a pediatrician who has cared for many, many student-athletes with dreams of playing in college.
Reflection questions:
How is your child athlete doing?
Can you intentionally build in more moments of rest?
How can you empower your child to say no and opt out when needed for their own health and wellness?
How can you stay out of FOMO, scarcity, and compare and despair?
What decisions are best for your family? What would your future self recommend?
If you are interested in parenting with presence and raising mostly happy healthy responsible young adults who want to spend time with you, join Jessie for the next Parent with Presence. It begins October 23rd. www.jessiemahoneymd.com/parent
If you want to find calm, contentment, and a clear and meaningful path forward in areas of your life beyond parenting, I invite you to explore private mindful coaching with Dr. Mahoney www.jessiemahoneymd.com
