She attended SUNY Purchase where she obtained her BA in Literature with a concentration in Drama Studies. She later pursued her MA in Educational Theater from NYU. As a poet, Dara has performed on several stages across New York City. Through her work, she believes in addressing the difficult and taboo topics to create discussion, promote healing, and encourages critical thought. She is author of poetry books "Black Man, Black Woman, Black Child" and "Casualty of Love". Her next book "Double X Chromosomes with an Extra Shot of Melanin" will be coming out this winter and explores what life is like at the intersection of gender and racial identity.
