Do you ever feel like your day is just crammed with hard things and you just can't make one more decision?
Like you've reached your daily limit for hard decisions and just don't have the energy or capacity to make one more?
If so, I get it.
I never really heard of decision fatigue as a "thing" until a few weeks ago, but the second I did, I heard that inner ding.
And I realized the very real way this has played out for me over the years.
I didn't want to pick up the phone after work because I felt like it had rung nonstop during my work day.
I didn't want to decide what to do on the weekend or for vacation because it felt too hard to decide.
Sure, I took care of the things I had to take care of in my life. The necessities.
But for many years, I let some of the more enjoyable parts of life go unaddressed - like keeping up with friends via phone or email or making plans for vacays - because I was just too tired to have one more conversation.
Too tired to make one more decision or do one more thing, even if it was for something fun.
Depending on the content of your workday and the complexity or weight of the decisions you make everyday, it's perfectly normal to feel like your brain battery is depleted.
To feel like you need to recharge.
And when that happens, what you really need is to give yourself some time and space to recuperate and reenergize.
That'll the equivalent of plugging in your cellphone.
But avoiding things or telling yourself things are too hard or that you just can't (or won't) make any other decisions, probably isn't an approach that'll serve you well.
It just means you're letting important things go.
The truth is, life comes for us all.
We've got work.
We've got family.
We've got friends.
We've got hard things to deal with.
So on this week's podcast episode, we're talking decision fatigue.
How it shows up and what to do about it.
Give it a listen. Then share it with a friend.
And then go plan that vacay, even if you're a little tired. Two months from now you will thank you for it. ;).
