Dan Buettner is the author and founder of the Blue Zones, which was a project that looked at regions of the world where people were living the longer than average - Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Loma Linda, California; and Icaria, Greece. Dan is also a National Geographic Fellow, a New York Times Bestselling author, an Emmy Awards-winner for co-directing the Africatrek: A Journey by Bicycle through Africa, and holds three Guinness records for endurance cycling. In this episode, Dan talks about his work with the Blue Zones, what the 5 Blue Zones Hotspots had in common, how to apply the lessons from the Blue Zones to urban/food deserts, and the quality of life for those living in the Blue Zones. I personally think that this is some of the best research out there for those who are interested in learning about longevity and what one can do to help maximize it.
