Some may find it easy to dismiss this as a "White Saviour" movie and justifiably there are reasons to see that in there but I feel having the White Aussie bloke in there as a potential antagonist turned protagonist helps create a more easily applicable lesson for those who need it most, i.e. the people he initially represents. Remember – they are the ones causing the problems.

In the same way the avatar helped Jake to understand the Na'vi culture, we all need to find our own avatar, or channel to experience, learn from and understand other cultures.

Understanding is one of the most powerful words in the English language.
