Our guest today is Shelli Belleci who speaks about her “beautiful awakening” to life of health and wellness. Interestingly it is so apt her book is called

This podcast is about Shelli who as a young woman struggled with self-image, health issues, difficulty fitting and finding true health all leading to her journey to becoming a plant-based wellness coach.

Shelli started having what is considered currently normal “hormonal” issues as a young teenager needing hormone management with oral contraceptive pills. Initially she was happy as she is petite by nature, and having curves was a welcome change.

However, in her early college days she struggled with self-image and body image leading to an eating disorder which she describes as over-eating and inducing the vomiting to maintain her weight.

She was caught up in the superficial happiness scene involving drinking, eating mindlessly and she felt “terrible” most of the times. She defines this moment when she decided she needed to change as “dying inside” like if she did not change, she would really die and would not be able to sustain the lifestyle she currently lived.

Her friends knew something was not working for her, but she was unwilling to accept it initially. She however did want to break away from this self-destructive cycle and wanted to take control of her health.

It was challenging but well worth the change.

She noticed that as young women go through this phase of eating a lot and then exercise a lot to help themselves, it is a constant struggle and is almost ignored as it is so normal to see this happen.
