On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about Boundaries. This episode is in conversation with Ami Patel who is a Psychotherapist.
We begin the episode by asking Ami that when it comes to our mental health and psychology, what does setting boundaries mean? In what kind of relationships are boundaries absolutely necessary?
Ami then gives our listeners some examples of boundaries for a clearer understanding of what exactly they are.
We then talk about why it is important to set boundaries and how it helps us.
Ami tells us how one can set boundaries without hurting or offending the other person.
We then talk about what are some boundaries that must be set in therapeutic relationships and how do they help.
We then discuss if there is any link between childhood abuse and the inability to set boundaries as adults and how exactly is it related.
We then ask Ami what advice would she give to a person trying to set boundaries after constantly being the “peacekeeper” in a severely dysfunctional family.
A married life is full of adjustments, one of the biggest ones in Indian marriages is getting used to new expectations from your parents and in-laws. We ask Ami what are some tips couples can use to set boundaries in this situation.
Lastly we ask Ami what is her opinion on “boundaries are selfish”? Does she think they are?
