Manage episode 371853617 series 2963633
Dumebi Egbuna started her career working at IBM within the enterprise sales organization. Working in an industry that is dominated by white men, she found her passion for helping minorities succeed in spaces that have previously not been accessible to them. She knows what it’s like to be the only Black woman at the table. After having a conversation with her brother, Toby, they realized that their experience was shared by many marginalized employees working in corporate America. They were inspired to launch their own company, Chezie, to help people with similar backgrounds break down barriers.
The Nigerian immigrants pay homage to their heritage through their company name, “Chezie.” The Igbo word means “reflect.” They encourage all companies to reflect on their DEI efforts, in order to ensure that their intent matches the impact.
Chezie, empowers companies to build, track, and manage impactful employee resource groups (ERGs). It has raised $775,000 in pre-seed funding. Chezie's software empowers organizations to build, track, and manage ERGs, while also driving positive business outcomes such as increased retention and employee engagement. They’ve helped over 100 ERGs, including those at industry-leading companies such as Chegg, Instacart, and the NBA, take their initiatives from intent to impact.
