In this 16th episode of The Lavender Fix podcast I interview: Zehra Mushahid, a Dubai based diverse HR Professional, and a very dear friend. I met Zehra in London in the November of 2015, introduced by my college professor from India when he learnt that I had moved to London.
Zehra was a newly wed bride at the time, very excited about this new chapter of her life. She could not stop talking about her wedding and would often reminisce about the special moments from her big day. She had no idea that her life was going to take a sharp turn over the next couple of months. Why? Zehra got divorced within a few months of getting married because her groom ghosted her. Yes. That happened.
In a culture where marriage is often considered sacred and even quintessential for a woman, and divorce gets looked at as a sign of failure, Zehra decided to go against the tide. However, a heartbreak is a heartbreak. It takes time to heal, it takes time to resume normal life.
Did getting “divorced” come in the way of Zehra living her best life? Did she give up on the possibility of finding love and companionship again? Let’s find out and learn from her resilience, courage and never-give-up attitude.
