In this episode, I speak with Erin Ryan. Erin is a friend of mine and Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) Westside in Los Angeles, she is a trailblazer and a true inspiration to me and so many others. I work with Erin at NAMI Westside and also as an ambassador for her “Free for Me” project which addresses the silence and stigma around Mental Health.

Erin believes that NAMI Westside is for everyone. Education and advocacy are some of the important focuses she uses when supporting the Mental Health agenda. We talk about the fact that Mental Health is just as important as our physical health.

This is a really special episode to me and I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did.

What to expect:

💫 Erin maintains that depression is a warning sign that can lead to bad choices. She assures her students that support is out there for them.

💫Education helps students to develop strategies to cope with their mental health issues. Erin suggests the use of a journal or writing a letter to your future self.

💫Erin recommends we 'make sure that we grow our own garden and not wait for others to bring us flowers'.

💫Spirituality, meditation and nutrition are some of the essential ingredients that Erin suggests we use to 'feed' ourselves.

💫She believes 'life is a dressmaker that specializes in alterations' and that we have the power to write our own story.

💫When in crisis sometimes we can not recognize we are in crisis, Erin asks us to reach out if we see someone we think is in need.
