There are two types of guilt; healthy and unhealthy, and understanding the difference between them can be life-changing.
Healthy guilt can be used to remind us to do better and is proportional and rational. On the other hand, unhealthy guilt is irrational and disproportionate. The four types of unhealthy guilt are: survivor's guilt, inappropriate retrospective guilt, guilt by association, and projected guilt. Recognizing the difference between healthy and unhealthy guilt and understanding the types of unhealthy guilt can help us learn to recognize, avoid, and release unhealthy guilt.
"Guilt can also be a very useful emotion. At its most constructive, it reminds you that you can do better in the future."
In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. What are the two types of healthy guilt, and how can they help us?
2. How can we differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate guilt and how can we address each type?
3. What is the difference between survivor's guilt, inappropriate retrospective guilt, guilt by association, and projected guilt, and how can we identify and overcome them?
And more!
