The act of mediumship is one in which a medium is believed to be able to bridge the gap between the living and the souls of the dead, and in doing so communicate messages back to the living and even take on the persona of a dead person.
Mediumship gained popularity during the 19th century and despite the popularity it was under intense scrutiny even back then in its heyday.
TV shows such as Most Haunted have featured mediums during ghost hunts as a way of getting more information about a place, person, event, etc and to hopefully conjure up more ghostly activity.
Despite the constant claims of fraud and mediums being regularly exposed as fakes, they're still making money and the masses will still flock to a reading or live show for answers to the ultimate question.
