Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Lt. Bill Crews, Master Resilience Instructor with the Garland Fire Department on @A Badge of Honor Podcast.
With 33 years in the fire service, Lieutenant Bill Crews has been with the Garland Fire Department since 1996. Bill became interested in the behavioral health of Fire Fighters after attending a CISM training in 1991. He served on CISM teams in Tarrant County and Garland and was certified in Peer Support in 2002. The effects of this career on his colleagues and himself is what drives Bill to continue to work on Peer Support and bringing resources to the fire service.
Bill is a Peer Support and Resilience Master Instructor for the International Association of Firefighters. He travels across the United States and Canada teaching firefighters to be Peer Supporters and helping them set up their local Peer Support program. Bill was also selected to be a part of the select cadre of instructors to teach Peer Support and Resilience in a Virtual Environment. He is also a part of the IAFF Disaster Response Team, deploying to areas struck by manmade and natural tragedies assisting firefighters in the area with their mental health and establishing resources into the future.
Bill serves as the President of the Garland Fire Fighters Association, Local 1293, and as the Zone B Trustee for the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters. Through these organizations, he works to better the lives of firefighters in Garland and across the State of Texas. Bill is part of the leadership team of the TSAFF Peer Support Team and is the Director of the IAFF District 11 Peer Support Team serving Texas, Oklahoma, and the Canal Zone.
