Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Davin Cole, retired police officer and national speaker and educator on PTSI and addiction on @A Badge of Honor Podcast.
Davin was a police officer for 33 years. He served with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department (SFSD) and as a Police Officer with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD). Davin served in criminal investigations, as a Tactical Unit K9 handler, Gang Enforcement, and Robbery Abatement.
Davin suffered an on-duty injury from a dog bite which led to a decades-long addiction to prescription pain medication and later on to include alcohol. This all culminated in an arrest for a pharmacy robbery in November 2021. Following his arrest, he was sentenced to 3 years probation and one year in jail, of which he served six months, all in protective custody. Though Davin was allowed to retire, it dashed his future plans in law enforcement.
Davin took his life-altering experiences, including being diagnosed with Complex PTSD, and turned them into a platform for advocacy, focusing on addiction and mental wellness among first responders. Davin has found sobriety and purpose in sharing his story, aiming to educate, inspire, and offer solidarity to those facing similar challenges. Connect with Davin on LinkedIn / davin-cole-51780152
