One of our biggest goals is to help build triathlon. Today we look at why we think splitting the Ironman World Championship between Kona and Nice seems like a really bad idea. We look at other alternatives and talk about why we think Ironman should focus more on building from the ground up. We look at analogies with other sports and how it can work better than the current Ironman model. We talk about why it’s more powerful to make one event great rather than making two sort of good ones. Do most triathletes even care? Lots of interesting discussion.

Topics:

  • 2 World Championship in different parts of the world
  • Women in Kona, Men in Nice
  • This doesn’t impact the majority of triathletes
  • Always comes back to money
  • Short term fixes
  • Max the Clown Patkin and Harry the Juggler or the San Diego Chicken?
  • NFL - Military uniforms and breast cancer awareness
  • Does the split between Kona and Nice help grow the sport?
  • Couples racing together
  • Pros, men, women all together is part of the mystique
  • What’s this do to the cost and price?
  • Can we get regular race participation up instead?
  • Para mutual betting?
