On this episode of Intentionally Well, I sit down with Teesee Logan, birth/postpartum doula, for an anticipated TWO-PART series. Teesee is also a certified breastfeeding coach and a newborn care specialist, and has worked along side countless families and mothers during their pregnancy journeys.
During this episode and the next (Episode 41), Teesee factually outlines the importance of informed consent during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. Some of the subtopics discussed:

  • True informed consent and the collective unawareness of all birth options
  • Violation of consent during birth
  • Physiological birth - what does this actually mean?
  • Importance of doula care regardless of where a mother decides to give birth
  • Differences between obstetricians, midwives, L/D nurses, and doulas and how they can work together
  • Emotional needs of a mother during all stages
  • The needs of the father during time of birth and postpartum
  • Why birth is now treated like a medical condition in a hospital setting
  • Birth transfers and the phrase "failed home birth"
  • The factual physiological and psychological effects placed on baby/mother in a hospital setting (lights, EMFs, noise, etc.)
  • The differences in monitoring baby/mother depending on location of birth
  • How unnecessary interventions are unfortunately very common during hospital births and can also stall the birthing process
  • NICU babies, and breast vs. formula feeding of NICU babies
  • Unnecessary C-sections and scheduled C-sections
  • Vaginal birth possibilities after having a C-section with a previous child
  • AND MORE...
