Have you ever struggled to communicate? Maybe it was with a loved one, a friend, or a work partner. One of the biggest problems I see is difficulty in communication. This starts in childhood. Boys typically are told to shake it off and ignore pain if they get hurt. This teaches boys from a young age to stop their emotional growth, which they then carry into their adulthood.

It is so important to understand that we need to be vulnerable. It is okay to admit that we don’t know how to be vulnerable. Vulnerability allows us to feel, and understand the emotions inside of us, rather than ignoring them. It is important so that we can talk to one another in a positive way and to be able to have confrontation in a healthy manner.

Being sensitive is not a bad thing. We have to get rid of the stigmatism that comes with allowing ourselves to feel and be emotional beings. Mental health is a part of who we are and we have to start taking it seriously and accepting the importance of it.

Topics Discussed:

  • The difficulty with communication.
  • How ignoring emotion in childhood gets carried into adulthood.
  • The importance of being vulnerable.
