From Not Being Able to Walk to Walking 2 Miles in a Day - Ben Menafee
Manage episode 213336758 series 2097876
Several years ago, Ben Menafee had a freak weightlifting accident, went into a coma, and woke up to a group of doctors telling him he probably wouldn’t be able to walk again.
Today, Ben has a “motivational wheelchair” that he keeps in sight to remind him of where this journey started. He can now walk, on his own, 2 miles.
Ben was told that “no gains could be made 12 months after a brain injury” and he’s made more documented gains in years 2 and 3 after his injury.
“If you think you can do it, try it”
In this podcast episode, we get to hear exactly how Ben was able to achieve those gains and:
- How he responded when doctors told him oxygen treatment was “snake oil”
- Why “limited mobility” LiveO2 users can still train equally to fully-mobile users
- What Ben does to keep his body guessing
- How to use LiveO2 systems if you’re claustrophobic
- Why Ben’s physical therapist now wants to try his system! (doctor becoming patient)
Show notes:
- Recumbent bike
- LiveO2 Adaptive Contrast (what Ben uses)
- CT Fletcher (bodybuilder Tom mentions)
- LiveO2 for the People private Facebook group
