Hi and welcome back! As always, it’s great to have you here!

I’m your host Marie O’Neil, the Author of How To Create A Depression-Free Life and the creator of the FREE Masterclass: What Causes Depression? (The True Root Cause).

Now, a toothpick seems to have absolutely nothing in common with depression, right?

It also doesn’t appear to hold the key to any kind of major transformation when it comes to our mind.

But, don’t be fooled!

Because, have you ever had something stuck in between your teeth?

Maybe you’ve had a shell off some popcorn that you ate at the movies, or you’ve had a strip of meat, a piece of apple or some fruit fibres wedged between your teeth, it’s annoying isn’t it?

Your tongue constantly spends the entire time going to that tooth and playing around with what’s stuck there, doesn’t it?

Now your tongue could venture anywhere else in your mouth. In fact, there’s another 31 teeth it could visit that have nothing bothering them, but it’s like it’s drawn to the thing that’s stuck and it won’t settle until whatever is stuck is removed.

Hence, the need for a toothpick!

You know this scenario, right?

So, what’s this really common scenario got to do with depression, anxiety or a negative mindset?

Well, this being drawn to what’s stuck is not just the nature of our tongue but it’s also the nature of our mind, isn’t it?

When we feel something is stuck in our life, or we have a problem that we cannot solve, our mind ‘hones in on’ that issue and keeps agitating it (like the tongue with a stuck piece of food).

It keeps playing it over and over in our mind and adding negativity to it. Which makes us feel more stuck, more negative and more down.

Now, of course the mind could focus on all the great things going on in our life, but instead (just like the tongue), it only concentrates and focuses on what is stuck, it becomes consumed with it.

Now, we could say this being drawn to what’s wrong in our lives is evolution. It’s part of how we’re wired.

For example, many experts believe we have a natural negativity bias within our brains.

Which means, we’re more likely to focus on the negative within our environment, the dangers and what’s wrong over what’s right and positive, in order to keep us safe.

It’s like an in-built survival mechanism inside of us.

Now, this may have kept us safe in the caveman days, it doesn’t make for a happy life, today!

Because, if we’re constantly focussing on everything that’s wrong and negative, we end up creating negative neural patterns within our brains, which keep us stuck in the likes of depression, anxiety and other self-limiting thought processes because it keeps us in a sort of negativity loop.

So, what’s the solution?

How can we override this evolutionary fixation on the negatives within our environment so, we can actually create a positive lives for ourselves and those we love around us?

Well, it takes two simple steps:

STEP 1: Is to shift your tongue away from the stuck food.

In other words, shift your mind away from the negatives and what’s stuck in your life. Focus on what’s right, be grateful for the people, the opportunities, the love you currently have in your life.

In fact, a great exercise is to write down 3 things, that’s all! Just 3 things you’re grateful for every night before going to bed. I promise, if you start being grateful for all the great things that are in your life right now, you’ll rapidly see your life start to become more positive and expand in brand new ways that you can be grateful for.

STEP 2: Is to grab a toothpick and remove what’s stuck.

In other words, deal with what’s stuck. Face it and solve it to the best of your abilities.

Don’t run away or attempt to avoid it because just like if we leave food stuck between our teeth, it will turn horrible, putrefy and get smelly and we’ll cause ourselves even more problems.

Things don’t go away because we turn away from them, they simply grow and get out of hand.

So, deal with what needs to be dealt with today and simultaneously focus on the positive.

Because the more we can focus on the positive and be grateful, this whole ‘attitude of gratitude’ will take us to a much higher altitude.

Which is exactly what we want!

We want to lift ourselves up to rise above life’s problems with ease.

So, get started today and I promise you’ll begin to see and feel the beneficial changes in your mindset and in your life, in no time at all.
